About FON

Sustainability & Impact

The Faculty of Organisational Sciences studies how organisations work and what it takes to change them. That is where our contribution to a sustainable society begins: in what we teach, in the research we publish, in the partners we work with, and in the way we run FON itself.

Founded in 1969 · More than 7,000 students · 19 research centres · 14 student organisations · More than 1,300 partner organisations

Our commitment

Ethics, responsibility and sustainability

These three commitments guide how FON makes decisions, designs its programmes and accounts for its work. They are set out in FON's Development Strategy and carried through education, research, engagement and our own operations.

Ethics

Clear rules of conduct for staff and students, academic integrity in teaching and research, and transparent decision-making.

Responsibility

Accountability for the effect of our decisions on society and the environment, and public reporting on the results.

Sustainability

The long-term resilience of FON, and our contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Networks and commitments

Commitments that carry obligations

FON belongs to the international networks that set expectations for responsible management education. Each membership brings duties, such as reporting, participation and external review, and we state them here so that they can be checked.

PRME Signatory since February 2025

The United Nations–supported Principles for Responsible Management Education. FON belongs to the PRME Chapter for Central and Eastern Europe and reports on its progress to the PRME community.

EFMD Global Full member since July 2026

The European quality network for management development, and the body whose programme accreditation standards FON works to.

AACSB Member

The global association of business schools, working on standards and development in management education.

CEEMAN Member

The international association for management development in dynamic societies.

ASIIN and national accreditation Accredited

Our undergraduate programmes hold international accreditation from ASIIN, alongside accreditation by the national quality assurance body.

Professional bodies Member

Chartered Management Institute, The Case Centre, the Serbian Association of Managers and EURO, supporting teaching materials, management practice and operational research.

How we work

Four pillars, including our own conduct

Research, education and engagement are what FON does for others. The fourth pillar is how FON itself is run, because the way an institution works is part of what it teaches.

01

Education

Sustainability and responsibility are taught, not mentioned. The undergraduate Management and Organization programme carries twelve courses on these themes and a graduate competency in ethical decision-making; a dedicated Circular Economy module runs at master level.

  • A published map of what is taught, at which level and for how many ECTS
  • Academic integrity, plagiarism and the responsible use of AI in student work
  • Short programmes and summer schools carrying ECTS and a Faculty certificate
02

Research

The Centre for Environmental Management and Sustainable Development anchors FON's work on the environment, the circular economy and the green transition, supported by centres in public administration, entrepreneurship, quality management, technology and innovation.

  • Projects and publications mapped to the Sustainable Development Goals
  • Ethical clearance for staff and doctoral research
  • The FAZON environmental-reporting project, with measurable targets
  • Open access through FON's institutional repository
03

Engagement

FON convenes. FON hosted the Responsible Management Education Research Conference in 2025, runs the SymOrg symposium and the SPIN business and science conference with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, and takes part in the Danube Cup network on entrepreneurship education.

  • Partnerships with companies, public bodies and civil society
  • Student challenges, mentoring and start-up support through the Research and Development Centre
  • Alumni contributing as mentors, guest lecturers and case authors
04

Our own conduct

Conduct and integrity, equal representation, accessibility, the wellbeing of staff and students, and the environmental footprint of the building and our events.

  • Plan for equal representation of the sexes, 2022–2026
  • Environmental data: energy, water, waste and paper
  • Rules on the misuse of artificial intelligence in student work, and originality checking of every thesis
  • A clear route for raising a concern, and what happens next

Education

What you can study

The clearest test of whether a faculty means what it says about sustainability is what it actually teaches. Below is the current provision, from undergraduate through to doctoral level.

Undergraduate studies · Management and Organization

Twelve courses dedicated to ethics, responsibility and sustainability

The accredited undergraduate programme carries a programme-level graduate competency in “respecting the principles of ethical implications in business decision-making and actions”, and states that it educates professionals following contemporary trends and environmental demands. That commitment is delivered through named courses.

ERS-dedicated courses in the Management and Organization programme. Each carries 5 ECTS.

Ethics is examined, not only taught

In Environmental Management, a graded classroom debate requires students to reason through an environmental dilemma and defend a position. In Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Management Systems, students prepare a real risk-assessment act and design management systems to ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.

Across the programme

Responsibility runs through further courses

Beyond the dedicated courses, ethics and responsibility are carried transversally by Business Law, Intellectual Property, Entrepreneurship, Technology Entrepreneurship and Consumer Behavior, covering the legal framework of business, the ethics of intellectual property, responsible venture creation and the critical evaluation of marketing practice.

Master studies · Organisation and Management Consulting

A dedicated Circular Economy module

At master level FON runs a one-year programme of 60 ECTS whose four modules include Circular Economy. The module prepares students to deliver business and economic benefit while protecting the environment, through the transition from linear to circular models. It covers the environmental suitability of products, the evaluation of environmental and economic benefit, and the management of that transition.

Master provision, Circular Economy module. Students take two compulsory courses and three electives; each taught course carries 6 ECTS.

Open to every student of the programme, whichever module they choose

Integrated Environmental Management sits on the shared elective list of all four modules: Circular Economy, Business Process Management, Business Consulting and Innovation Management. Environmental management is therefore available to every student on the programme, not only to those who chose it as a specialisation.

Research

Research for society

The Centre for Environmental Management and Sustainable Development is FON's academic home for environmental management, the circular economy and the green transition. Its staff teach at both undergraduate and master level and contribute to FON's summer school, so that the research base and the teaching provision are the same people.

Further centres extend this work into adjacent fields: public administration; small and medium enterprises and entrepreneurship; quality management and standardisation; technology management; innovation management; interdisciplinary research in management; efficiency analysis; and business decision-making.

Research outputs are openly available through FON's institutional repository. Research involving human participants is submitted for ethical clearance before it begins.

We research our own sustainability, and publish the result

Under the FAZON project the Centre surveyed 115 undergraduate and master students on FON's environmental performance, rating the old and new buildings separately on energy, water and waste management on a seven-point scale. Students rated their own environmental awareness at 5.06 but their environmental activism at 3.94. FON publishes this gap rather than hiding it, because it shows the work still to be done. The study was presented at the SPIN conference and is available in the repository.

Network

Students working on real problems

FON's Research and Development Centre runs challenges, mentoring and training programmes with partner companies, together with start-up support and FON's innovation incubator. Fourteen student organisations are active at FON, and student teams regularly reach international finals in case competitions.

Students and staff also run a digital-literacy initiative for children, delivered together with FON’s Research and Development Centre, in which children learn to work with computers.

Voluntary work in the local community is a recognised part of study. FON organises it so that students can apply what they have learned to real situations, and the result is assessed and entered in the student's Diploma Supplement. A supervised internship in a company is a credit-bearing part of the undergraduate programme.

Partners

FON has strong links with the business community, cooperating with more than 1,300 companies and organisations where students undertake mandatory internships, and with more than 50 strategic corporate partners (among them Banca Intesa, Nelt, Raiffeisen Bank, Belgrade Airport, Imlek and Rivian) across banking, logistics, manufacturing, IT, retail and the public sector, including the national eGovernment service.

Strategic partners

Partners contribute applied projects, internships, guest teaching and case development. Alumni contribute as mentors, guest lecturers and case authors, and employers take part in reviewing the relevance of our programmes.

Responsible institution

How FON is run

People and inclusion

FON's Plan for Equal Representation of the Sexes, 2022–2026, sets out the measures and targets in force, and its implementation is overseen by the Gender Equality Committee. FON publishes the national legal framework that applies alongside it (the Law on Gender Equality, the Law on the Prohibition of Discrimination and the Law on the Prevention of Domestic Violence), so that students and staff can see the rules they can rely on. Provision for students with disabilities, financial support and scholarships, and support for the wellbeing of students and staff are described in the student services pages.

Conduct, integrity and the use of AI

Students are bound by the Code of Professional Ethics of the University of Belgrade, and must pass two compulsory courses, Academic Integrity 1 and Academic Integrity 2, before writing any academic work. The first covers the ethical code governing the academic community; the second covers academic writing, correct citation, paraphrasing and summarising.

The Code of Professional Ethics of the University of Belgrade binds staff and students alike: it prohibits discrimination and harassment, requires conflicts of interest to be avoided and attempted corruption to be reported, sets the rules for research involving people, and obliges every member of the university community to act responsibly towards the environment. The forms of non-academic conduct in written work, namely plagiarism, false authorship, fabrication or falsification of results and self-plagiarism, apply to seminar papers and final theses at every level of study. FON adds detailed rules on the misuse of artificial intelligence. The rules distinguish generative tools from assistive ones. Using AI to write or generate any part of a paper, chapter, case study, experiment or questionnaire is not permitted. Editing to improve readability is permitted, provided the tool used and the purpose are declared, and provided the intellectual and scientific content remains the author's own. Teaching staff are equally bound: they may not paste original student work into tools that retain it in a database.

Every final thesis is checked with FON's official originality software, which reports both text similarity and estimated AI-generated writing. The FON library performs the final check before defence and informs the examination committee of the result. Cases of non-academic conduct are dealt with through the University's disciplinary rules and, where appropriate, FON's Ethics Committee.

Environment and operations

Environmental sustainability reporting is a specific objective of FON's Development Strategy 2023–2033.

Separately from the Strategy, members of staff run FAZON (Faculty Engaged for Sustainability and Progress), an internal project of their own initiative. It has built a reporting framework based on real data and set measurable targets: a 20% cut in energy use, a 30% cut in waste with a 50% rise in recycling, a 15% cut in water use, and a 25% cut in greenhouse-gas emissions. The first data series will be published once complete.

Procurement and resources

FON is developing an approach to responsible procurement, so that environmental and social criteria are applied consistently when goods and services are purchased.

Student action

Students in action beyond the classroom

Some of FON's clearest contributions happen outside the classroom. The activities below are carried out by students, some through their own organisations and others together with FON's research centres. Voluntary community work is assessed and recorded in the Diploma Supplement.
